Annual Sailing Trip Was Amazing!
A couple weeks ago the Central Whidbey Youth Coalition sponsored an adventure to the San Juan Islands with a group of 14 youth from Coupeville. This trip would not have been possible without Captain John Colby Stone!
Over the past 8 years, I have had the honor of coordinating the annual sailing trip that the Central Whidbey Youth Coalition sponsors and every year Captain John Colby Stone has eagerly volunteered his time, knowledge, and his ship the Cutty Sark. This year we departed from Cornet Bay on Saturday and sailed to Jones Island where the youth set up camp for the night. Sunday we sailed to James Island, and once again the youth set up camp. We had the whole island to ourselves! As we headed for home on Monday we encountered some good wind and waves. Surprisingly, no one got sick, THAT day! We ended our excursion back at Cornet Bay.
The ship’s crew this year was: Sarah Marley, Danny Nelson, Julia Tichy, Gabe Goddard, Aaron Mitchell, Genevieve Morton, Drew Koleada, Peter Bernhardt, Jessica Holbrook, Zack Piercy, Taylor Anthony, Hanlon Williams, Garrett Franzen and Katie Hall. Our ever so adventurous volunteers were Bruce Grosso and Jim Exe.
On behalf of the Central Whidbey Youth Coalition and the sailors of the Cutty Sark, I would like to acknowledge Captain John Colby Stone for volunteering his time, his ship and making this an incredible experience where he has ‘Put the You in Youth’. Without his continued dedication to our youth, this trip could not be possible!
